Core Arts

Core Arts was set up in 1992 by an artist using vacant space in the old Hackney Hospital. His studio became a haven for artistic expression, as curious patients seeking refuge from the monotony of life on the psychiatric ward immersed themselves in a world of paint and colour. We have published poetry, music and paintings from members including Steve McCann, Frank Bangay, Alex Ingram, Rudolph Lindo, Gary Molloy and Laura Allan. A collection of text, audio and image can be found in our eponimous publication Not Your Average Type
